Still Running Off at the Keyboard

A former Shepherd man convicted in 1989 of raping a 13-year-old girl during a satanic ritual pleaded guilty Monday in District Court to a sexual offense against another, younger girl. He was then released from the Yellowstone County jail.

Leon Lloyd Whitcher, 48, pleaded guilty to a felony sex offense against the younger girl between 1987 and 1989. The allegations surfaced in 2005, a year after Whitcher was released from the Montana State Prison on probation for the rape of the older girl....

In 1989, Whitcher was found guilty at trial of raping a 13-year-old girl during what the victim described as a satanic ritual. The girl said she was given alcohol, forced to wear a black robe and lie on a pentagram painted on the floor of a house owned by Whitcher outside Shepherd....

A similar story of sexual abuse surfaced in 2005, when a victim came forward and accused Whitcher of similar satanic rituals accompanied by sexual abuse and rape. The victim said she was abused over a two-year period beginning when she was 7 years old. The abuse included being forced to dance naked on a star painted on the floor as Whitcher watched while wearing a black robe.

A 53-year-old man who assaulted his two daughters over a period of 10 years, claiming he was possessed by the Devil, was sentenced to seven years in jail today.


The man appeared in Wellington District Court on four charges of unlawful sexual conduct, two charges of indecent assault, two of assault with a blunt instrument and three single charges of assault.

The court was told the man had indecently assaulted one daughter from 1997 when she was aged six until September last year.
