Mark Waterincks, a Belgian Catholic who follows mystical Catholic phenomena around the world and keeps tabs on the Church's position on those phenomena, has sent the following update on the status of the Medj apparitions:
SITUATION OF MEDJUGORJE (end March 2008)
SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT MGR. PERIC., BISHOP OF MOSTAR, HAS NO JURISDICTION.
IS THIS REALLY SO ?
1° CARDINAL PULJIC, ARCHBISHOP OF SARAJEVO, SAYS THAT MEDJUGORJE DOES NOT COME WITHIN THE COMPETENCE OF THE BISHOPS CONFERENCE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
( MARCH 21 2008 )
„Medjugorje does not come within our competence“, says Cardinal Puljić
In the Vecernji list of March 21, 2008, Ivan Tolj published an interview with Cardinal Vinko Puljić, Archbishop of Sarajevo.
Question: the recently published interview with the Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Secretary of the Holy See, that the case Medjugorje should be re-examined, inspired various speculations. Has the Bishop’s Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina discussed this matter, and is it true that Medjugorje shall be officially examined once again?
Cardinal Puljic’s answer: „Our BC has not discussed this matter, because the phenomenon of Medjugorje does not come within our competence. At the moment when the Holy See takes the decision and gives a task, we shall think about what to do. This is why it is not necessary to speculate, unless concrete instructions come. After the work of the Commission, the BC has already decided to accompany the phenomenon pastorally. This is nothing new, but the implementation of the first decision of the BC about the phenomenon Medjugorje.”
2° THE BISHOPSCONFERENCE OF TUSCANY IN ITALY PUBLISHED AN OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ABOUT THEIR AD LIMINA VISIT TO THE VATICAN. THEY SPOKE WITH MGR. AMATO, SECRETARY OF THE CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH, ABOUT MEDJUGORJE. HE REFERRED THEM TO THE HOMILY OF MGR. PERIC OF JUNE 15 2006 IN THE CHURCH OF MEDJUGORJE AND ASKED THEM TO PUBLISH THIS DOCUMENT IN ORDER THAT ALL PRIESTS AND FAITHFUL SHOULD BE ILLUMINATED AND SHOULD TAKE THE NECESSARY CONSEQUENCES.

3° THE BISHOP OF MOSTAR, MGR. PERIC, AND ALL COMMISSIONS ON ALL LEVELS, HAVE ALWAYS SAID THERE ARE NO SUPERNATURAL APPARITIONS OR MESSAGES IN MEDJUGORJE AND MGR. PERIC HAS ALWAYS ASKED THE ’ SEERS ‘ AND FRANCISCANS NOT TO PROPAGATE THEM. THEY NEVER WERE OBEDIENT TO THEIR BISHOP. THIS SIGN OF DISOBEDIENCE IS TYPICAL FOR…?
4° THE RETIRED BISHOP OF ISERNIA IN ITALY, WHO IS EXORCIST, SAYS THE APPARITIONS OF MEDJUGORJE ARE OF SATANIC ORIGIN

5° A NEW ITALIAN BOOK OF MARCO CORVAGLIA, WHICH HAS THE SUPPORT OF MGR. PERIC, HAS THIS TITLE : “ MEDJUGORJE : E TUTTO FALSO “
THE VATICAN REFERS TO THE BISHOP OF MOSTAR
THE BISHOPS CONFERENCE OF BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA IS NOT COMPETENT
MGR. PERIC OF MOSTAR HAS SPOKEN A HUNDRED TIMES 100% NEGATIVE AGAINST MEDJUGORJE
See his official website WWW.CBISMO.HR Click left on MEDUGORSKI SLUCAJ. UNDER PROPOVIJEDI YOU CAN FIND MANY TEXTS OF MGR. PERIC IN MANY LANGUAGES
HE HAS JURISDICTION AND IS COMPETENT
SO THEN LISTEN TO HIM IF YOU WANT TO STAY WITHIN THE R.C. CHURCH
MEDJUGORJE LEADS TO A SCHISM
mark waterinckx- belgium
One of the people who is not listening is Michael Brown. I frequently link articles I've found at Spirit Daily. It has been an interesting news source for several years. Increasingly, though, I have been disturbed by Brown's promotion of Medjugorje. The apparition is unapproved, as Mark Waterinckx's email demonstrates. Rick Salbato also has warned of the danger in following this and other unapproved apparitions. E. Michael Jones' book THE MEDJUGORJE DECEPTION provides ample evidence that there are serious problems with this apparition. The bishop who has competence has repeatedly warned that there is nothing supernatural taking place at Medj.
Yet despite all of these warnings Michael Brown is leading a pilgrimmage to Medjugorje. I believe that is not only unwise, but also contrary to the teachings of the Church. We have seen where this decision to oppose the Church has led others. Schism is not a pretty sight. If Brown wants to remain a Catholic in good standing and a credible Catholic journalist and speaker, he should not be doing this.
