MASS - VARIATIONS ON A THEME
Last Sunday at Mass the visiting African priest began the Lord Have Mercy prayer at the same moment that the organist began the Gloria. It was the organist that won the moment as the priest subsided into silence. I thought it odd and made a note to pay attention next time to see how it was being done.
Today--or make that yesterday since it's after midnight--the Lord Have Mercy prayer was again omitted. As I think back over the last few weeks of attending this church, I can't recall hearing the Kyrie or the Lord Have Mercy prayer being said. When did this become optional?
