CULTURAL TRENDS
Throughout the ages, every male among you, when he is eight days old, shall be circumcised, including houseborn slaves and those acquired with money from any foreigner who is not of your blood. Yes, both the houseborn slaves and those acquired with money must be circumcised. Thus my covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting pact. If a male is uncircumcised, that is, if the flesh of his foreskin has not been cut away, such a one shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant. Gen: 17:12-14
There is a movement in society to abandon the practice of circumcision. It has entered the Church. I find the argument given by Petrina Fadel of Catholics Against Circumcision, to be strange indeed:
According to founder and director Petrina Fadel, “Many Catholics in the U.S. are unaware that infant circumcision goes counter to the Catholic Catechism teaching on “Respect for bodily integrity.” The Catechism teaches that non-therapeutic amputations performed on innocent persons go against the moral law.”
In other words, the Catechism is in the business of deciding that something God ordained is really immoral.
I have not formulated an opinion either way re circumcision, but to argue that God's laws are immoral, and that man has a much better grasp of morality than God does, is the height of irrationality for a Catholic.
