RECENT USCCB MEETING
A reader sent in Helen Hull Hitchcock's analysis of the recent Bishops' meeting and the elections. From "Adoremus Bulletin":
But the divisions within the conference are increasingly visible, as revealed in the conflicts over the Liturgy; even more starkly in the sex-abuse crisis; and this year, in the bishops' divergent responses on Catholics and political responsibility. This situation cannot easily be resolved.
Sounds right to me. It isn't possible yet to determine what is the crucially divisive factor, but the evidence that there is one is becoming increasingly more plain to see. It is of course possible that there is more than one.
