IDENTIFICATION WITH WHAT ?
A reader sent in the letter addressed to Archbishop Flynn on the Rainbow Sash Website:
We appreciate your confidence in our word. The Rainbow Sash is never worn as a sign of protest. Others have promoted this idea, but we say, we wear the Rainbow Sash as sign of identification.
What are they "identifying" with? Sin.
If I approach communion as part of a group wearing a symbol of identification with a local street gang that is known for robberies, should I be allowed to receive? How about if I identify with a group of atheists who blaspheme God? What if I attend with a group who wear Satanic symbols on their clothing as a mark of identity? Should all of us receive? A group identifying itself as pro-abortion activists?
If the group with which you identify is, by its very nature, opposed to the teachings of the Catholic Church, identity and protest can't be separated.
